Dr.
Robert Foran
received his
undergraduate
education
at UCLA. He
was elected
to Phi Beta
Kappa during
his junior
year of college.
He won numerous
awards during
his medical
school education
at the University
of California
including
admission
into Alpha
Omega Alpha
honor society
and receipt
of the Russell
Severance
Springer and
Newhouse Foundation
Scholar in
Medicine awards.
His general
surgery training
was at the
Los Angeles
County/University
of Southern
California
Medical Center
and vascular
subspecialty
training at
the University
of Oregon.
During
his distinguished
practice he
held many
administrative
positions
- chief of
the vascular
surgery division
and kidney
transplant
service, as
well as longstanding
member of
the Medical
Executive
Committee
at Cedars-Sinai
Medical Center.
He had an
abiding interest
in medical
education.
In addition
to training
many vascular
surgeons through
the practice’s
fellowship
he taught
medical students
at UCLA and
general surgery
residents
at the Los
Angeles County/University
of Southern
California
Medical Center.
He was a founding
member of
the Southern
California
Vascular Surgery
Society and
the Western
Vascular Society.
He has co-authored
over 40 journal
articles and
book chapters
on a variety
of vascular
surgical topics,
particularly
issues of
dialysis access.
Dr. Foran
retired from
surgical practice
in 1997.
He
continues
to provide
consultative
services.
